Blocking out the sun... what could possibly go wrong? The SciFi film "Snow piercer" comes to mind ... I am stunned by the arrogance of the mad scientists attempting to control this planet.
I keep hearing mention of this movie lately. Never saw but definitely gonna track it down somewhere. One of the Highlander films (#3 maybe?) also comes to mind with the fictional company, The Umbrella Corp (pretty clever name for a faceless multinational IMO, in addition to its alluding to blocking the sun), totally scorching the atmosphere from these types of programs.
Not the best movie ever, but dystopia caused by blocking the sun/"cooling" the planet kicks it all off. I own it and have watched 4 times. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment? Or maybe knowing just how bad things can go when mad scientists go too far is a good thing...
Good, bad or in between, any movie that makes one think outside the the movie, is a good one IMO. Some of the best 'truth in fiction' comes from cheesy ass b-movies and pre-70s sci-fi.
